This aluminum, hard anodized structure is constructed to shade the skylight over the offices of the Sisters of the Living Word in Arlington, Illinois.   The structure rises from the existing skylight, which by itself was overheating the office floor below during the summer months.

The sun shade adds sculpture for the eye.

The yellow panels are “flipped” up to lay on the shade structure during the winter to receive the full winter sun.

This 40W PV panel operates an exhaust fan that ventilates the interior of the skylight during the summer.
